Service Opportunities – projects for families, civic and religious groups or businesses.  Ideas for teens needing service hours for school, scout, or honor society requirements.

Year round

  • Make sure the Senior Adult Services vans sparkle and dazzle inside
and out so that our senior riders travel in style.
  • Prepare “de-stress” care packets for people who give care to a frail seniors.  Suggested items include:  bubble bath, lotion, humor books, funny movies, and a gift certificate for an ice cream shop or a low key restaurant.
  • Hold a theme used book party and collect children’s, mystery/thriller, sci-fi, western or romance books to donate to our November book sale.
  • Manage a book drive at your school, business or church.  Collect and sort books and help with the book sale in November.
  • Make every day special for seniors who receive home delivered meals by creating interesting “objects of art”, cards or placemats.  Crafty preschoolers to Nursing Home residents are welcome to contribute.
  • Use your creativity.  Think of a new and different opportunity that would enhance the lives of seniors and their caregivers.
  • Help seniors with yard work (mowing, raking, trimming, edging or cleaning out gutters).
  • Scrap, caulk and paint seniors homes
  • Join the window washing brigade and help seniors have a new view on life.
  • Use your group’s van to take a group of seniors grocery shopping and help them shop.
  • Bake small birthday cakes for seniors who receive home delivered meals.
  • Help seniors move or have a yard sale.
  • Provide monthly checks on batteries for seniors who wander and wear bracelets to help identify their whereabouts.

Seasonal

  • Make seniors’ holidays brighter by filling and delivering an individualized basket of gift items for the senior.  Over 300 individual gift baskets will be delivered to seniors receiving services from Senior Adult Services.
  • Collect and package shelf stable food in box lunches so that vulnerable seniors have something to eat when the weather prevents them from getting out of their house.
