Senior Adult Services Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
For the second year, Brookhaven County Club was the site for the annual Senior Adult Services (SAS) Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. The Freddy Jones Jazz Ensemble provided a musical background as SAS board and staff members expressed their thanks to the hundreds of individuals who donate their time to make a difference in the lives of seniors and caregivers.
According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, over 25% of the adult population volunteered last year. The impact of their donated time is vital to the ability of non-profits such as SAS to provide services to their community.
In 2009, SAS volunteers contibuted almost sixteen thousand hours to provide over 4,500 safes ride for seniors through the Transportation program; delivered 6,775 hot meals for those who cannot prepare food for themselves; and completed over 600 Home Repair projects to improve senior's safety and mobility at home.
Senior Adult Services assists seniors and caregivers in Addison, Carrollton, Coppell and Farmers Branch and gives groups and individuals an opportunity to volunteer occasionally or on a regular basis. Home Repair projects offer businesses team-building opportunities and individuals the chance to use their skills in practical ways that directly impact the living condition for the senior. Transportation and Home Delivered Meals volunteers may serve for only a couple of hours once a month, and they have the pleasure of interacting with the seniors receiving the service. For those who want a regular volunteer position, half-day reception or administrative slots in the office offer are available.
