Caregiver Support
Caring Hearts Need Care Too
Who is a caregiver? Each year, more than fifty million people provide care for a chronically ill, disabled, or aged family member or friend. Much of the time the caregivers don't identify themselves in this role, since they are “just taking care” of their loved one. The physical and emotional well being of the caregiver can be impacted by the demands placed on them leave little time for rest, check-ups, or stress relieving activities. Over time, all of these increase the possibility that the caregiver will develop a chronic illness themselves.
What’s our goal? Our caregiver program ensures that caregivers have both the educational opportunities and support they need in order to continue caring for their loved ones while reducing the level of stress they experience.
Caregiver educational seminars are offered periodically along with support groups for people to share their experiences with others in similar circumstances.
Caring hearts need care, too. Perhaps one of the hardest aspects of caregiving is the emotional strain caregivers experience. Broadening their support system with staff, other caregivers or in groups offers continued personal support and encouragement. It is important for caregivers to get a break, or “respite” from time to time. Our program offers information about respite care and how to arrange it, and financial assistance to those on limited budgets.
