Home Repair
Meeting the physical challenges of aging is one of Senior Adult Services’ passions. Making small adaptations to someone's home can help them overcome physical limitations and allow that person to remain in their home.
For example, even the most careful person can slip while getting into the shower. Trying to maneuver a wheelchair or walker out of a house and off the porch can be difficult at best. Climbing up on a stool to change a light bulb, smoke detector battery or air filter can cause a serious fall. In all of these instances, Senior Adult Services’ Home Repair Program can mean the difference between safety in the home or a debilitating injury.
We have a group of dedicated volunteers that perform all types of minor repairs, including the installation of grab bars, hand-held showers, railings, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, wireless door bells and wheelchair ramps. They also change plenty of light bulbs and put new batteries in smoke detectors – all jobs that many seniors have difficulty doing for themselves.
Additionally, we provide limited home maintenance services services to seniors or younger disabled adults if they are unable to handle these tasks themselves and cannot afford to hire handymen. Volunteers donate the labor and a sliding scale is used to determine the amount charged for materials that are used on the project.

If you like putting things together Senior Adult Services can use your skills to help seniors maintain their independence safely in their own homes. The home repair volunteer may install grab bars, railings, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, or construct wheelchair ramps and steps. Bigger repair jobs offer opportunities for small teams or large groups of volunteers.
