Events/Reminders
With the holiday season fast approaching, many of us are expecting
out of town visitors. For visitors who use various types of medical
equipment, staying with friends and relatives can be a challenge
because of the inconvenience of transporting large or bulky personal
care items. Senior Adult Services has a medical equipment loan program
that can make the holidays easier and more enjoyable for everyone.
SAS loans items such as wheelchairs, walkers, bedside commodes,
and shower/transfer benches to those who live or work in Addison,
Carrollton, Coppell and Farmers Branch for short-term use at no
charge. (Signatures from the user and the borrower are needed in
order to loan out the equipment.)
Please call Jennifer Clark, Information at 972-242-4464 with any
questions or to take advantage of this year-round program.
Whether you are satisfied with the Medicare Part D Prescription
Plan you chose in 2006 or wish it had better coverage, now is the
time to explore your options for 2007. New insurance companies have
joined the mix and new plans are being offered.
With even more plan choices than last year and a shorter enrollment
period, it’s even more critical to start early to determine your
options. You can call Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE (633-4227) 24 hours
a day for assistance, or as we did last year, Senior Adult Services
is also available to meet with you to use Medicare’s online enrollment
tool to help narrow the options down. Beginning November 6, you
can call Senior Adult Services at 972-242-4464 to schedule an appointment.
Each year, hundreds of generous volunteers share their blessings
by providing winter necessities and niceties to make beautiful,
holiday gift baskets for more than 200 local seniors. Individuals,
families and groups from local businesses, churches, clubs, scouting
and other youth organizations all team up to bring holiday cheer
to some of our loneliest and neediest senior citizens.
It’s time to sign up for the Holiday Basket Project. If you or your
group would like to participate, please call Kathy Blaschke at Senior
Adult Services at (972) 242-4464 for more information.
