Home Repair

Sometimes, even the most careful person can slip while getting into the shower. Trying to maneuver a wheelchair or walker out of a house and off the porch can be difficult at best. Climbing up on a stool to change a light bulb, smoke detector battery or air filter can cause a serious fall. In all of these instances, Senior Adult Services’ Home Repair Program can mean the difference between safety in the home or a debilitating injury.

Meeting the physical challenges of aging is one of Senior Adult Services’ passions. Making small adaptations to someone's home to meet physical limitations can help that person remain in their home.

We have a group of dedicated volunteers that perform all types of minor repairs, including the installation of grab bars, hand-held showers, railings, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, wireless door bells and wheelchair ramps. They also change plenty of light bulbs and put new batteries in smoke detectors – all jobs that many seniors have difficulty doing for themselves.

We also provide limited home maintenance services to seniors or younger disabled adults if they are unable to handle these tasks themselves and cannot afford to hire handymen.

The charge for this service is on a sliding scale. The charge includes materials and a tool replacement fee.
